We’ve seen a significant shift in recent months towards a hybrid working culture, thanks in no small part to the COVID-19 pandemic. But whilst there have been increases in worker productivity and overall happiness as a direct result of this trend, for business owners, it’s left them feeling a little lost when it comes to showing their employees that they appreciate the work they’ve been doing.
They’ve probably been working overtime and have probably not been getting paid any extra for doing so, given the events of the last 18 months. So doing something to show your appreciation can go a very long way whether it’s a free lunch, a bit of extra time off, or a nice little treat.
With that in mind, here are a few of the best ways you can show your remote staff a little extra employee appreciation this year.
Give them the equipment they need
It’ll be that much easier for your workers to do their jobs well with better equipment so this one benefits you and them equally. Show them you appreciate their recent efforts by upgrading their home computer system, for example, or paying for faster broadband.
Remember special occasions
If you can remember their birthdays and lavish them with cards and gifts then we’re certain they’ll appreciate it, particularly if you have dozens or even hundreds of employees to keep track of. On a more general note, meanwhile, Christmas gifts are always going to be welcomed. They don’t have to be too ambitious either. Some traditional chocolate Christmas gifts, for example, might really hit the spot.
Give them time off
Working from home is far from a holiday. Indeed, it could be argued that working from home means that workers start to find their work and social lives bleeding into one and that’s rarely a good thing. If they’ve been providing exceptional results, perhaps consider giving them a couple of long weekends to really enjoy themselves and recharge their batteries.
Shout out their successes
Don’t be shy about how happy you are with their work. Shout it from the rooftops (or at least to the rest of the company). This can be as simple as letting your employees know how pleased you are on your next video call to sending out a company-wide email.
Be there for them
This is perhaps the most crucial thing you can do for any employee. Just let them know that you’re there for them if ever they need you. It might seem like a small and rather trite thing but it will mean the world to employees who might never have experienced such warm approachability at other jobs and even in their personal lives.
