Ever since Marvel announced that the Fantastic Four would be entering the MCU via an upcoming Jon Watts film, the fanbase has gone a bit…crazy. That ranges from believing those characters are about to show up on every Disney Plus show now (first Reed Richards in WandaVision now maybe Doctor Doom in Falcon and the Winter Soldier), to trying to figure out who is going to be cast in the main four roles.
This little game took over the internet for the past day or so, and ranges from serious picks to memes. And we have, of course, already had two separate movie star-filled Fantastic Four rosters, and nostalgia reminded everyone just how much they were crushing on blonde-haired blue-eyed Jessica Alba as Sue Storm back in 2005.
So, who are the most popular picks for each role on the internet right now?
Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) – John Krasinski (Jack Ryan, The Office), Brandon Routh (Superman, Legends of Tomorrow)), Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) – Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow), Kristen Bell (The Good Place), Samara Weaving (The Babysitter)
MORE FOR YOU
Johnny Storm (Human Torch) – KJ Apa (Riverdale), Zac Efron (Neighbors), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria)
Ben Grimm (The Thing) – Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Alan Ritchson (Titans)
The most common refrain for sure is the real-life husband and wife duo of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, who of course worked together on The Quiet Place and fans believe they could easily slide into the roles of Reed and Sue here. Similarly, Zac Efron comes up constantly when it comes to casting Johnny Storm, while there seems to be less of a consensus on Ben Grimm.
You will notice that most fan picks match the gender and race of the original comic characters, but there’s no reason Disney may not change some of that around to be more inclusive. Not that they’ve done that very often before, hence our mostly white MCU to date, but it’s possible. The last Fantastic Four movie had Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, a great pick. In fact, that whole cast was pretty good, which has come up in this internet campaign, but it’s just that the movie itself was extremely poor.
And of course, there are the casting memes, which are great:
Mac is Doctor Doom, of course.
I would be a little surprised if these fan castings played out, since they rarely actually do. John and Emily do seem like it would be hard to go wrong with, and yet who knows if Disney agrees. They have jammed so many movie stars into the MCU the list is getting increasingly short as to who’s left to appear, but it could be a great platform for a mid-range actor to see their fortunes rocket upward landing a role like this.
We’ll see when this cast actually takes shape, but the MCU’s Fantastic Four is still a ways out yet.
