BTS never let too much time go by before they return to the Hot 100 with a new song (or songs), and every time they do send a just-released cut to the tally, there’s reason to celebrate. This week, the band has made history simply by seeing their latest track appear on the tally at all, even though it’s nowhere close to the top of the list.
This week, BTS’s new single “Film Out” debuts at No. 81 on the Hot 100. That’s not a terribly impressive position for the group, which has now scored three No. 1 smashes and several other top 10s, but this latest tune is different from everything else they’ve charted with before.
“Film Out” is performed in Japanese, as the septet records albums in both Korean and Japanese. The track is now their first to reach the Hot 100 in that language. In fact, the tune is now one of only a handful of songs in that tongue to reach the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed titles in the U.S. at any point in the ranking’s half-century-long history.
BTS have now reached the Hot 100 with 20 different songs, and “Film Out” is sure to be just the first new win to arrive in 2021. These are early days, but the group is getting ready for what will likely be another busy year, so more placements are surely in the near future.
“Film Out” serves as the first single from BTS’s upcoming full-length BTS, the Best, a compilation of some of their biggest hits and most beloved tracks in Japanese. That set is slated to drop on June 16, at which point it could easily become another bestseller from the band.
